J. Martin Raine-Okubo, born and raised in Japan, in a bilingual/bicultural environment,  has adopted a unique life philosophy -- a fusion between the East (Martial Way and Asian philosophies) and the West.

J. Martin brings to the Institute a wealth of experience in the helping profession including short-term counseling and psychotherapy,
emergency psychiatry, group therapy, consulting and teaching (goal setting, stress management, retirement and life adjustment).  He holds advanced degrees in Psychology and Ministerial Counseling.

J. Martin has extensive experience as a practitioner and teacher in several styles of martial arts ("yielding," as well as, "hard"): Judo, Jujitsu, Wrestling,  Aikido, Tai-Chi Chuan, Hapkido, Okinawan Karate, Boxing and Kendo.  As a teacher, his emphasis in Martial Art's Class is beyond just that of an exercise, forms of meditation/discipline and self-defense... but rather, teaching the philosophies (“Budo," meaning the “Way of the Warrior”) behind the arts to help individuals navigate through life in harmony with a new, resilient, mind-set.

In 1996 J. Martin founded "Sui Getsu Kai" (literally translated as "The Water - Moon Association"), or SGK, as an Aiki-Jujitsu club where the principles of "Ai" (harmony and fusion) and "Ju" (yielding, pliable) was the focal point within the context of "Budo"  (Martial Way -- not to be mistaken with soldiering, militant, aggressive.) For the practitioner, the mind-set and physical skills of self-defense along with its philosophical applicability brought harmony and satisfaction to everyday living... visit  "Innovative Budo" to learn more.

Expanding in 1999, J. Martin incorporated the principles of SGK, applying the fundamental doctrine and philosophies, to his counseling/therapy practice.   In the past 10 years, his work transitioned away from doing counseling, psychotherapy or any kind of clinical work.  After many years of helping individuals reach “baseline” functioning, J. Martin's interest began to shift in helping individuals grow -- to strive for goals beyond their baseline -- thus, the beginning of his Life Strategy Consulting and Holistic Health and Energy Work.

J. Martin has worked with many individuals over the years -- patients, clients and students. His passion is to assist individuals to reach their desired goals. Not to “settle,” but rather, to “strive” for more.  J. Martin has worked with people of all age groups, occupations, lifestyles and ethnicity.
